Polygon (formerly Matic Network) is an Ethereum scaling platform that allows developers to build decentralized applications with low transaction fees. Polygon helps solve Ethereum's problems such as high gas costs and poor performance.
In February 2021, the developers of Matic Network changed the project's name to Polygon. The rebranding was timed to coincide with the transition from a second-layer solution for the Ethereum blockchain to a multi-chain system similar to Polkadot. Thus, Polygon became the "Internet of Ethereum blockchains."
